Below please find information about Medicare’s latest regulations to qualify for home medical equipment in the following categories:
- Patient has a mobility limitation that impairs his/her mobility during activities of daily living (MRADL)
- Patient’s mobility limitation cannot be resolved by use of a cane or walker
- Patient has a mobility limitation that significantly impairs his/her ability to participate in any MRADL in the home.
- Patient requires their head to be elevated 30º or more
- Patient has a pulmonary condition
- Patient positioning is not feasible in ordinary bed
- Patient requires traction equipment
- Patient is physically incapable of utilizing regular toilet facilities
Enterals
- Patients has a permanent non-function or disease of the structures that normally permit food to reach the small bowel OR
- Patient has a disease of the small bowel, which impairs digestion and absorption of an oral diet
Respiratory Therapy
- Patient suffers from severely impaired breathing and needs the machine to administer bronchodilator drugs
- Patient must have a face-to-face evaluation for Obstructive Sleep Apnea
- AHI or RDI ≥ 15 events per hour with a minimum of 30 events OR
- AHI or RDI ≥ 5 and ≤ 14 with a minimum of 10 events plus documentation of:
- Excessive daytime sleepiness, impaired cognition, mood disorders, insomnia
- OR
- Hypertension, ischemic heart disease or history of stroke
Note: If CPAP trials have failed, BIPAP is available for qualified candidates.
- ABG with PO2 of 55 mmHG or below
- O2 saturation of 88% or below
